 Taylor Swift's Rerecording of Her Album '1989' Tops Sales of Original

The pop singer's "Taylor's Version" of her 2014 album "1989" sold 1,653,000 copies in the US in just a week. 

Nine years ago, Taylor Swift covered the music charts with her album "1989, " which became her official transformation into a mainstream pop star. It was the biggest start for any album in over a decade with 1,287,000 sales in the United States. 

Since then Swift has got eight more number 1 albums. And now she has incredibly topped the first-week total of her original "1989" with a recording of the same album. With her 1,653,000 sales, it is officially the biggest opening sales week of her career. She also got 3.5 million around the world, according to her label. This is the biggest debut for any album since Adele's "25" eight years ago, which started with nearly 3.4 million in the U.S., a number the remains unsurpassed.
